GICLEE PRINT INFORMATION In recent years digital inkjet prints (giclees) have become increasingly popular in printmaking and have quickly established themselves as the new print standard for museums, galleries, publishers, and artists. The artist's original work is scanned into a computer and this image then serves as a base from which prints are created. Refinements to this base are made digitally by the artist and/or a professional printer using a software program such as Adobe Photoshop progressing through a series of proofs to ensure the color, clarity and tonality of the artist's vision. The 3/4 and full size giclee prints of my drawings are produced using the Epson 9600 printer which sprays (giclee is French for "to spray") a series of extremely fine droplets of grey and black inks to create an image of extremely high quality. They are printed by The Light Room in Berkeley, CA. on Hahnemuhle German Etching paper with Ultrachrome pigmented inks. The 8" x 10" giclees are printed by myself on Hahnemuhle German Etching paper with a Hewlett-Packard Photosmart 7960 printer using three shades of black and grey inks. Both the inks and the papers onto which all of my images are printed are of archival quality and offer 115+ years of light fastness and UV-resistance when properly framed and hung under glass. In addition, I completely handwork with graphite each of the 3/4 and full size prints of a drawing so that the final product combines the quality of a fine print with the depth and reflective characteristics of a drawing. The small giclees are handworked as needed. Editions of the 8" x 10" giclees are limited to 50 prints. Editions of the 3/4 and full size drawing giclees are limited to 30 prints. All prints are signed and numbered. |
